Many people know I am a bit of a Wii fanboy, so thought it would be cool to write up some my thoughts on the machine's best games:
Captain America: Super Soldier - Being a massive fan of anything Sega and the terrific Captain America film I picked this hoping for something good and I wasn't disappointed. This is a vast action adventure with loads of fighting and some minor puzzle solving. I particularly love the way the fighting works and got tremendous satisfaction from every fight I have taken part in. There a some tough boss battles and levels can get a bit confusing but nothing too bad to put you off. The game makes good use the controller to position and throw your shield too, which is a nice touch. Highly recommended for Captain America fans like myself!
Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop - I had first played this on the Xbox 360 and heard that this Wii version was a somewhat gimped port, but don't let that put you off! It's true that there are less enemies and they removed a few features like taking pictures but there are still more than enough zombies to slaughter and the unique control method is a real winner. You use the nunchuk to move around and the wii mote to aim and look around. Once you get used to this I found that its a far superior way to control the game and adds a lot to the overall enjoyment. Right up there among my favourite games on the console.
GT Pro Series - This early Wii game from UbiSoft is basically just Gran Turismo on the Wii, it's that simple really. You have to compete in different classes of race, upgrade your cars and take tests in order to move onto the next series of races. There is a massive selection of Japanese cars that include vans, mini-trucks, classic cars and also lots of hidden ones that you can unlock as the game goes on. The graphics aren't the best with the dodgy cell shading effects that don't really work and the music isn't great but thankfully the gameplay is spot on that is what really matters in a game of this type.
Star Trek: Conquest - This has to be my most played game on the Wii. When ever I have plenty of time to kill and want to unleash some angst this is the game I turn to. The mission in this game is to take command of one of the universes many races from the Klingons to the Cardassians (or just the Federation if you wish) and take control of the galaxy. You do this by building up fleets, conquering planets and mining their riches. It's a mix of both strategy and arcade sections, but if you are a real strategy nut you can choose not to play these and simulate the battles instead. I always get really sucked into this when ever I play it and it's a must for trekkies.
Dream Pinball 3D - Every system needs a good pinball game and this is best one I have come across so far on the Wii. You roam around the virtual arcade and play one of the 6 different tables that are present. Each one has a different theme and there 7 different camera angles that you can choose from. There is also a section of 6 different balls that play differently and you can compete against up to 3 of your friends. All the usual features are present such as multipliers, giant ramps, score attacks and multi-balls. The graphics and sound are both nicely done too so all in all this is a very solid package that is well worth picking up.
