Firstly, what was your job at Thalion?
Pixel Artist. I did mostly bitmap, Tilesets and Animation work.
What games did you work on?
- Ghostbattle (Did this freelance together with Erwin Kloibhofer, sold it to Thalion and got me my first job as in-house artist).
- Lionheart (All gfx) Still proud of this mother!
- Ambermoon (Intro animation and additional art)
What was so special about Thalion?
The people working there. Erwin, Michael, Jurie, Eric, Thorsten, Chistian, etc. All very talented and dedicated ppl to work with.
What are your best memories of your time there?
Being single! No, The first half year when moving to Germany me and Erwin Kloibhofer resided in the Thalion Gütersloh office. Kinda crazy when you think of it but it somehow seemed normal to us. Later on we found a decent place to live nearby. Also, Playing the newest import SNES, Sega Megadrive and PC-Engine games and watching the latest laserdisc movies at Eric’s place. Going out, Visiting the arcades and cinema’s. Also enjoyed the visits from Manfred Trenz (from Turrican fame) a lot. Great times, It was all about gaming! At least in my world it was.

What did you do after leaving Thalion and what are you doing now?
Me (and Erwin Kloibhofer) left to start freelancing. We got hired by Psygnosis where we did ‘The misadventures of Flink’ for Sega Megadrive and ‘The Adventures of Lomax’ for Sony PlayStation.
I’m still pushing pixels for smaller project (Nintendo 3DS and other handheld platforms), Also helping out with smaller Indie projects which I’m enjoying very much! Quite astonishing that pixels are still cool today in 2014. I’ve also done quite a bit of high-res and 3D stuff but it’s classic 2D which still drives and defines me as an artist.
